Idaho Gold
Brewer’s Notes - IDAHO GOLD
Idaho Gold - 6% abv - American Lager (1B)
Name: All of the ingredients are from the panhandle of Idaho - there are no potatoes in this beer, but we snuggled up with that impression with the name. Once you see it in a glass and taste the uniqueness of this beer we feel the name will be onomatopoeitic.
Style: This is a good “old-fashioned” American Lager (1B in the 2015 BJCP Style Guide). It is slightly amped up on abv (you are welcome), and looks to differentiate itself with specific ingredients, sourced a specific way. Working hard to keep balance, while presenting differentiation, we feel like we threaded that needle on this one. Hop aromas should be subtle but distinctive with bitterness levels JUST high enough to counter the inherent malt sweetness of this style.
Story: We have been having fun with lagers!! These lighter lager styles are all about balance and subtlety. Within those handcuffs of flavor we are exploring the world of ingredients available to us a small brewer. This beer sources grain and hops from a particular area of Idaho. This was a pure experiment, but we love the results :^)
History of One Lake Brewing Releases:
Winter 2022
Ingredients: The ingredients really differentiate this beer from your standard American Lager. In the base style we brewers are going for NOTHING on a scale of nothing to wow. We wanted to kick that idea in the knees and give you something to remember this beer. All of the grains are from up yonder in potato land and the hops we blended are from Idaho too.
Methods: Don’t mash too low as the lager yeast is going do to the drying out for you. Long boils are not required as this is an American base malt, but hop additions need to be thoughtful to develop the bitterness, aroma and taste we are after. Once the yeast finishes and you bring it down to conditioning temperature, give it as long as you can to drop bright and release its full flavor profile..
